Data entry jobs require workers to make sure that information being processed is handled efficiently. There are variants of data entry jobs: typists, data entry keyers, electronic data processors, transcribers, and keypunch technicians. There are also many online versions of these jobs.
What are data entry jobs?
Generally, data entry jobs require you to type basic transcripts, fill out simple marketing forms, research information from websites, and do tasks for other entry level positions.
The typist or encoder prepares typed materials composed or constructed by other clerks, professionals, or managers. These typist jobs are entry level jobs, and as the worker gains more experience, he or she is delegated with more jobs. A senior typist may also encode and format technical and complex materials.
A typist may also take on other clerical duties such as taking phone calls, filing, and operating the copy machines and printers. On the other hand. the transcriber or note reader helps transcribe the stenotyped or recorded audio files or notes into standard written forms.
The data entry keyers are tasked to input and manipulate data, edit existing information, or proofread data for accuracy of content. Data entry keyers are involved in the preparation of documents to be printed or published. Many data entry keyers are working on keyboard forms of data entry, but new modes of data entry such as scanners or electronically transmitted files and documents are also being used.
The data entry keyer makes sure that all characters and text are accurate and readable. Should there be a character that the machine can’t recognize or is displayed erroneously, the data entry keyer must input the correct character or set of data manually. In some companies, keyers may also perform other clerical tasks and operate other machines such as printers or tape readers.
