CITY NAME RESEARCH PROJECT

Step 1: List the top 250 most populated US cities. USA ONLY PLEASE. No other country will be considered for this project.

Other possible sources:  US Census information

Step 2:

Research each city and find unincorporated districts within them OR nicknames of the city itself or nicknames of the districts

How to find unincorporated districts/cities near or in a major US city:

enter the name of the city and “unincorporated” Example:

“unincorporated los angeles” yields

http://www.google.com/search?q=unincorporated+los+angeles

You can also try “town in (CITY)” replace CITY with a city selected from a list of of large US cities

Search through the listings to find names of unincorporated districts/places or nicknames of the city or its district

You can also find them through blog listsings/blog posts or searching the news section of google

Step 3:

Run your list through google.com and make sure there’s at least 250,000 listings for that term.

NORMALLY, you have to enter the name of the place and the STATE it is in. Example: pacoima california

yields 280K results

Delete from your list those that have less than 250,000 listings on google

Step 4:

Find the Exact Search volume for the place name.

1) go to Google’s Keyword Volume Search Tool
2) you may be required to enter an image verification code.  Enter it and when the page reloads, find the link  “Previous Interface ”
3) Using the older interface, enter the keyword in the top box
4) you may have to enter another image verification code.
5) Click FILTER MY RESULTS.  Tick the checkbox for  ” Don’t show ideas for new keywords. I only want to see data about the keywords I entered. ”
6) Once you see the results, click on MATCH TYPE on the middle right side and select EXACT

NOTE:  You can mix in words like ‘town’ or ‘city’ or even state like  pacoima california  to try to get 25000 exact search volume and above

Delete from your list those listings that have LESS than 25000 exact search volume

Step 5:

Turn the search terms you used for Step 4 into a  .COM website name. Example: pacoima turns to pacoima.com IMPORTANT: .com names only please. No .net, .mobi, .biz, etc

ABSOLUTELY no numbers or hyphens/dashes in the .com name

Run the names through this domain availability checker

Delete from your list the ones listed as TAKEN

Step 6: Same as Step 4 except find 10 web pages that act as resources / sources of background information regarding the

district/city/suburb name you found. These 10 web pages must have information about your name suggestion such as (these are just suggestions
they don’t all have to have this)

crime rate
history
population
points of interest
attractions
political action
geography
economy
news

etc etc

Anything that provides background information

Step 7:

Send ONLY *ONE* email that lists all your name suggestions. During the last research project, people were sending
dozens of emails each with one suggestion. This overly burdens our email and sorting system. Send only ONE email to homebasedwriterjobs@yahoogroups.com

Include the following information

NAME SUGGESTION (the .com name)

ROOT OF THE SUGGESTION (the actual district name without the .com and with spaces)

NUMBER OF **EXACT** SEARCH VOLUME AT https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

NUMBER OF SEARCH RESULTS when typed into google.com

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT THIS NAME IS NOT YET TAKEN AT NAMECHEAP.COM

URL OF 10 INFORMATION SITES REGARDING THE NAME — SEE STEP #6 ABOVE

NOTE: This is all DISCRETIONARY, the client must approve. Mere compliance with all steps below doesn’t guarantee approval.

The bottomline concern:  the name must have commercial value.
