Make money playing online games: Dark Age of Camelot

Years after King Arthur’s demise, three warring realms compete for the glory. Such is the plot for Dark Age of Camelot, an MMORPG developed by Mythic Entertainment. Released in 2001, DAoC gives Player versus Player or Player vs. Environment options and share the bounty. And bounty it is my friend as what booty or spoils of war you can accumulate whether you’re of Albion, Hibernia, or Midgard class can now be tangible to the real you. Although PvP gives you the satisfaction of the kill in this game, it’s not always battle that leaves you with all the spoils of war and more.

Ye Olde Market

DAoC’s currency is based on that flat disk more commonly known as the coin. Denominations range from the trusty copper to the much-valued mythril. Although the mythril is a currency in the game, it can not actually be achieved by a single player as each is constrained to a 200-platinum account.

Players can start earning their first coppers by battling the usual NPCs such as monsters and creatures from the different realms in the PvE mode, eventually earning their way to the Gold and the Platinum status. But combat may not be the only means to hearing that clink in your begging bowl. Basing on characters that players can choose from, one can earn by plying their own trade, much like how it is in the real world.

If you’re of Tradeskill class, you may be able to offer services that other players may find valuable. Fashioning armor, smelting metal for weapons, mixing herbs for potions, and a knack for casting spells and chants may prove valuable also in combat wherein they can be used together to achieve results such as a damaging spell that causes the aggressor to weaken when your armor is struck. Services from characters with these skills are in demand in the player market.

There is also treasure in trash, and this is proven if you choose to partake of Trinketing. Players can benefit from items dropped or lost during battle by taking these for their basic materials and refashioning them. Gold can be received by selling them on the player market for more than what you would get for the original item.

It’s a commodity to be able to repair damaged infrastructure during wartime, with all those towers and forts being blown up every four minutes. Those with Woodworking skills, much like carpentry and masonry will be in demand. Of course, to be able to do the repairs, wood must be purchased for a price through merchants or salvaged or invoked using spellcasting skills that would mean losing a few coins. But once the repairs are done, Realm points are gainfully achieved, making the loss bearable.

Player Market, Real World, Real Gold

If you’ve accumulated enough gold or plat in the game, but only enjoy it vicariously, you can now make use of it, well, in the real world. With the same skills mentioned earlier, you can be a merchant earning dollars instead of those digitally-precious metal. Yes you geek, you can buy that DAoC expansion set by selling Alvarus’ leggings to a Bonedancer Healer Druid or what artifacts you may have been able to salvage in the game. Your healing services can now also be of monetary value as you can help other players by enhancements spells, and leveling them up so to speak.

If you’re a pretty impressive player, you can join tourneys and contests and try your hand on face to face battle with other jeans-clad Armsmen.

Or you can sell your game points to stragglers who are running low on platinum. It works much like foreign exchange, wherein you attach a value to your gold, or your whole DAoC account. IGE.com can offer exchange rates that gives you the same value for your coinage, without the proverbial weight.

So, immersing yourself in a world after King’s Arthur’s demise isn’t just a convoluted voyuerism. It’s the ideal trade of choice for people who want the best of both worlds, not just that of Albion, or Hibernia or Midgard. After all, after you’ve sold your DAoC plat account on IGE.com for its weight in gold or platinum, there’s The Trials of Atlantis and the New New Frontiers to plunder next.
