One fast growing field in online jobs for Filipinos in the Philippines are online typing freelance projects.  In this article, we discuss how these types of projects work and what skill sets you need.  We will discuss how much they pay and how payments are normally handled.

Online Typing projects dissected

Online typing jobs revolve primarily around transcription services.  You are supplied PDF or IMAGES (jpg or gif) or any other format where you can’t simply copy and paste.  You then rewrite these materials into a text file or doc file exactly as you find them in the files sent to you.  This is the CLASSIC version of online typing jobs.

Variations in this type of work at home job:

Many online sideline jobs are advertised as “online typing work” but they require more than transcription.  You have to process the text.  For example:  Transcribe numbers into an XLS sheet then apply a formula.  Or transcribe the numbers, apply a formula, and filter based on analysis.

Many keyword filtering jobs require analysis in addition to just transferring text from one format to another.

Another key variation is you transcribe the text into a .txt file but then you have to REWORD or change the sequences of the text or make it fit a format.

What kind of skills do you need?

English communication skills
Follow english instructions
Fast reader
Quick typist
Decent analysis speed (it varies from job to job)

Do all online typing projects pay the same?

No.  The more extra processing is required, the more the client will pay.  So… a transcription plus reordering plus filtering plus analysis job will pay much more than a straight text transfer job.

How do you get paid?

Most providers pay via paypal.  Beware of companies that seek to pay you by check.  It might take forever to cash the US check from the Philippines since the local bank has to make a check request.  It can take several months.  Also, this opens you up to added risks of the payer not paying or spending the funds.
Why do US companies pay for this?  Why can’t they do it themselves?

While many American companies do decide to insource, many choose to outsource for the following reasons: cost and specialization.  The minimum wage in, for example, CALIFORNIA is $8 dollars an HOUR.  So that’s $64 per day.  That’s roughly P2752 per day.  The Philippine minimum wage is P375 (NCR).  That’s a savings of P2377 or $55.   So even if they were to pay TRIPLE the minimum wage or P1125, they would still save around $38 per day.  That’s a HUGE SAVINGS.  In addition, US employers have added costs that push their minimum daily wage costs upwards–insurance, state and federally mandated unemployment schemes, savings plans, etc.

Even if an employer in the US can afford to pay their workers minimum wage, they might view the distraction from their core business as a deal killer.  For example, it costs more money for a car parts company to train people to transcribe when their main business is buying and selling car parts.

For all the reasons above, many companies use online agencies to find Filipino transcribers and pay them very attractive salaries or project fees.

Give this type of project a shot today.  Great for data encoders and data entry workers as well.

    Data entry project is one of the in-demand job here at work at home online job. For many, they think that this is easy work to do, but upon searching and studying data entry work at home projects, i found out that it requires to have a good english communication skills, Know how to follow the given instruction required on the project, analytical thinking and of course, a good speed of typing skills.
