The Generics Pharmacy

February 17th, 2010

Medicine can be so expensive that many people in the Philippines cannot afford to treat some illnesses. Some families opt to use the money to buy food, instead. Because medication is very important to the treatment of certain diseases, The Generics Pharmacy has been born. Well, the pharmacy actually has earlier roots that go back to the forties. In 1949, German nationals set up the Pacific Insular Inc. The company imported drugs to be sold wholesale in hospitals and drugstores in the Philippines. The parents of Benjamin Liuson, known founder of The Generics Pharmacy, bought the company. The company went through a few name changes before becoming the Generics Pharmacy under the presidency of Liuson. Liuson continues to find ways in making medicine more affordable to the average Filipino.

The Generics Pharmacy’s Offerings

Several Filipinos are grateful for The Generics Pharmacy. The prices are slashed down versions of popular brand prices. Filipinos who are not earning much are not interested in buying the so-called popular brand when there is the need for money to feed hungry mouths. The Generics Pharmacy offers a fantastic alternative. The senior citizens can further enjoy 20% discounts. Not only that, they could even get free checkups. The Generics Pharmacy is not just a business but is actually more like a service, one that is needed during these hard times. One of the ways it reduces costs is through not hiring medical representatives. There is no need for them, anyway. Many people have heard about the pharmacy.

Buying a Generics Pharmacy Franchise

The great thing about the company’s franchise is that despite the fact that the branches are really widespread at over a hundred, The Generics Pharmacy makes it a point that it provides the franchisees with equal opportunity. The branches and franchises are all part of one big family and are not scattered about to compete against each other. The company itself is more focused on wholesale and leaves it up to the franchises to earn through retail. So, if you want to buy a franchise, The Generics Pharmacy is an excellent opportunity. People, Filipino or not, will continue to need medicine. You will be there to respond to that need with prices that can be easily afforded.

Related Questions:

1. Is it still lucrative to invest in a Generics Pharmacy franchise despite more than a hundred existing branches?
2. Would you buy your medicine from The Generics Pharmacy if money is not an issue? Why or why not?
3. Do you believe that generic drugs can cure diseases as well as the branded counterparts?

Dunkin Donuts

February 17th, 2010

This is part of our periodic series on FRANCHISING OPPORTUNITIES in the Philippines

For someone with a sweet tooth who needs something more filling, Dunkin’ Donuts is quite a welcome experience. Though not originally from the Philippines, the fast food chain is warmly accepted by sweets lovers with a coffee fixation, though the latter part is not a requirement whatsoever. The Dunkin’ Donuts operation in the Philippines is only a franchise under Tri-Vision Ventures, Inc. Still, it is hard to believe that the several kiosks and outlets it made way for had only started operating and spreading in the Philippines from the year 1987. The fast food chain has become part of the normal array of food providers in the country.

The Dunkin Donuts Menu

Of course, Dunkin Donuts sells donuts. Without those sweet concoctions, everything will not be the same. There are different flavors and colors to choose from. Both kids and adults alike will be pleased with a box of these sweet snacks. There is also coffee to match the donuts, making an ideal breakfast combo. The donuts serve as a sugar boost and the coffee of course helps wake you up to face the day. Of course, as with other fast food chains, Dunkin Donuts serve softdrinks. The food chain also offers cheeseburgers. If you do visit a Dunkin Donuts branch, you are more likely there for the donuts themselves.

Dunkin Donuts Health Concerns

Like any other fast food chain out there, whether located in the United States or in the Philippines, Dunkin Donuts have experienced being in the scrutiny of health officials. There is a lot of emphasis on health nowadays what with so many fatty food-related diseases, such as cardiovascular problems. Obesity has also increased in the Philippines. The Dunkin Donuts management recognizes these problems. It decided to make use of less trans-fats. The management also decided to make use of healthier breads for their sandwiches and burgers. The fast food chain also makes use of healthier oil to cook its food. While this is such an admirable move for Dunkin Donuts, it is still important that health officials check on its branches to see if the new rules are actually being applied. The same should go for other fast food chains all over the Philippines and all over the world.

Related Questions:

1. What are the best offerings of Dunkin Donuts?
2. Is it lucrative to invest in a Dunkin Donuts franchise?
3. Do you think about your health when buying food from Dunkin Donuts?

Mang Inasal

February 17th, 2010

Mang Inasal, a growing food chain in the Visayas, spread out south into Mindanao and north to the Metro Manila area. It was founded in 2003 by a young entrepreneur named Edgar Sia. The first branch was housed in a car park in a Robinsons mall in Ilo-Ilo. By 2009, there are about a hundred Mang Inasal branches. One of the reasons for the fast spread is that Sia applied for a franchise license in 2005. Of course, there was also the fact that Mang Inasal became popular early on, probably by word of mouth. The food chain was also promoted via billboards and television ads. The food chain was a good representative of good Ilonggo food. Ilonggo refers to anything or anyone coming from Ilo-Ilo.

Mang Inasal specialties

So what is Mang Inasal all about? Mang Inasal is a respectful way of calling an older man. A person’s name should follow the word but in this case, Inasal follows. Inasal means grilled. Because there are a lot of food chains that offer grilled food in the Philippines, you may expect Mang Inasal not to be such a great deal. Still, the use of secret herbs and spices that made its grilled chicken extra flavorful made Mang Inasal a staple for some Pinoys. For that extra Filipino identity and flavor, the grilled chicken is pierced through with a bamboo stick. The accompanying rice is placed in a banana leaf. Of course, there is more to Mang Inasal than grilled chicken. You can take a bite at its grilled pork, fish, liver and other local delicacies.

Mang Inasal and the poultry industry

Mang Inasal makes use of local chicken. Like some Filipino food chains serving chicken, it helps the local poultry industry. Filipinos love their share of fried or grilled chicken. That fact greatly helps the poultry industry. However, Mang Inasal could have bought imported chicken. Instead, it buys local. So, the food chain contributes well to the local poultry industry. Still, pork is bought more often than the white meat although the Philippines’ chicken consumption has increased recently. Mang Inasal is proud to be part of that increase.

Related Questions:

1. What makes Mang Inasal special among other food chains offering grilled foods?
2. Is it lucrative to invest in chicken?
3. What makes Mang Inasal popular in a short period of time?

Get paid to find bugs using a browser

February 7th, 2010

Chrome, Google’s own answer to Firefox and Internet Explorer, is opening a bounty of $500 USD for anyone finding BUGS using their browser.    The focus is mostly on security bugs but if you find your browser acting funny, send in a report.  Like with any similar types of cash reward programs, the more attentive you are, the higher the chance you may spot something.  Here’s more details:

Q) What reward might I get?
A) As per Mozilla, our base reward for eligible bugs is $500. If the panel finds a particular bug particularly severe or particularly clever, we envisage rewards of $1337. The panel may also decide a single report actually constitutes multiple bugs. As a consumer of the Chromium open source project, Google will be sponsoring the rewards.

Q) How do I find out my bug was eligible?
A) You will see a provisional comment to that effect in the bug entry once we have triaged the bug.

Q) What if someone else also found the same bug?
A) Only the first report of a given issue that we were previously unaware of is eligible. In the event of a duplicate submission, the earliest filed bug report in the bug tracker is considered the first report.

To file your report, go to code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry?template=Security%20Bug

Firefox also runs a similar program.  Find out more about their bug reporting bounty at mozilla.org/security/bug-bounty.html

Happy Bug Hunting!

Basic Forum Etiquette Tips

February 4th, 2010

One of the things that forum administrators and members truly hate are spammers. Yes, even forum sites are oftentimes flooded by spam. If you join a forum, make sure that you’re doing it for good reasons, perhaps to help others or to post your own questions so others can be of help. You must be aware of forum etiquette. Here are some of the basics:

Don’t post spammy threads

One of the important tips for forum etiquette is to avoid posting spammy threads. Many people join forums in order for them to share relevant experiences or get helpful ideas. But spammy threads are neither relevant nor helpful. They only take up so much space. Aside from this, spammy threads can also give new members the wrong impression about the forum and the community itself. If you don’t have something good to say about a certain topic or if you don’t have relevant questions in mind, it’s better that you don’t post at all. You have to make sure that the things you write on the forum are related to the topic. Avoid posting the same messages and making non-sense or offensive posts that will get you banned. Best of all, use a language that’s suitable for the type of forum community you are joining.

Keep in mind the audience type when writing your thread

When you create a thread, you have to consider the audience too. Who would be reading the posts? What type of audience is that? Would readers be interested in what I have to say? You have to use words that would easily be understood by other forum members. This way, members of the forum can easily relate to you. Also make sure that your posts won’t offend the members or put off readers.

Although people don’t see you when making forum posts, it is important that you maintain proper etiquette when starting your threads or commenting on other posts. Don’t be one of those people who pester forum members by posting spammy threads . A forum is a tool used by people to share knowledge and spread information. If you haven’t got anything to do, you should not waste your time posting spam.
