Why Is the BPO Industry Booming in the Philippines?

Filed under Commentary, November 6th, 2008 by admin

BPO companies spend on nationwide advertisements on many large billboards, newspapers, websites, and even well-known fast food joints just to be recognized. For that reason, many young people and experienced professionals initially think of applying to call centers and other BPO companies when searching for jobs. But why is the BPO industry booming in the country? There are three reasons to explain this.

The BPO industry encourages foreign investment.

BPO companies are sought after by many other companies that prefer to focus on their business processes. Instead of spending on hiring new employees and on overhead costs, companies resort to BPO companies to do the extra work for a smaller fee. In addition, company clients can improve on their products when outsourcing services.

Many companies that resort to BPO services are foreign. And because labor in the country is less expensive compared to that of Western countries’, foreign companies invest on Philippine BPO services. So as more and more foreign companies put their money in local outsourcing services, the BPO industry grows.

There is less BPO industry regulation in the country.

The BPO industry’s growth in the country is not limited or overly regulated by the Philippine government. In fact, it is lenient on the matter. Because there is less regulation, a lot of capital providers invest in BPO companies. After all, BPO services are very much in demand by large companies all over the world.

There are no monopolies in the BPO industry.

Monopolies, especially the powerful ones, are what make governments regulate or check industries. Monopolies can lead to a dominating company’s limited effort to innovate products and services as well as to unreasonable increasing and decreasing of prices. But in the Philippine BPO industry, there are no monopolies.

In fact, there are so many BPO companies competing against one another in hiring the best workers and in providing high-quality services. The absence of monopolies in the BPO industry allows company consumers to choose from a wide range of services. In addition, because BPO companies constantly innovate, more company consumers and investors are attracted to invest in the Philippines.
